Hello, Old Times Chapter 47

Happy New Year Everyone!!! 🙂

Chapter 47: Fly Away

The small trail by the riverside was very long. It had a slight slope and was very slippery. Yu Zhou Zhou carefully walked on it step by step. She raised her left hand and struggled to find her watch – there was still five minutes.

She had to go quickly! She cautiously started running, occasionally staggering and nearly slipped off.

Finally, she came to the end of the path. She turned a corner and lifted her head.

Thanks to the shelter from the street trees, her vision cleared up. The vast frozen river was like a snow white dragon, lying there quietly, behind Chen An.

Chen An was wearing a white feather down jacket, his ears red from the cold, just like the first time they met.

He stood in the white world and let out a smile.

“I’ve made you wait.” Yu Zhou Zhou suddenly became somewhat reserved and politely bowed a little. In the moment, she even wanted to lift up her non-existent skirt and give a bow.

Later, whenever Yu Zhou Zhou thought of that night, she would always be filled with emotion, Chen An would always be able to bring her miraculous moments.

She had stared at the telephone for a long time and suddenly burst into tears.

Yu Zhou Zhou stepped in front of the telephone and lightly picked up the receiver and pressed it to her ear but she was choked up and couldn’t speak.

Can anyone tell me?

“What should I do….” The tearful sound transmitted through the phone along with the sound of sobs in her breath. Yu Zhou Zhou could feel the tears roll down her cheeks like magma.

“What do you mean?”

The sound over the receiver that carried laughter and surprise made Yu Zhou Zhou almost jump up in shock.

“You…you…” Yu Zhou Zhou said something that was embarrassing for her age, “Are you…a deity?”

The loud laughter on the other side of the phone ended Yu Zhou Zhou’s crying.

“Yeah, I’m a deity. Do you want to make a wish?”

Yu Zhou Zhou was trembling and didn’t know if she should believe the mysterious person on the other side of the phone. After the unbearable silence, Yu Zhou Zhou took a deep breath then loudly said, “I!…..”

What do I want? Yu Zhou Zhou froze for a while. Go to Normal University Affiliated Middle School? Understand Maths Olympiad? Or…

“You what?”

“I…” Yu Zhou Zhou was so anxious that she almost cried. She knew that deities were all very busy and it wasn’t easy to connect the line. Dilly dallying like this will only make them impatient.

“I wish that…you, can you give me another three wishes…”

The deity laughed so hard they were out of breath.

“Yu Zhou Zhou, you’re really blunt…”

Later, Yu Zhou Zhou discovered that most of the miracles in the world were only just coincidences. Chen An had just dialled the her number and the dial tone hadn’t even rung when Yu Zhou Zhou on the other side had already picked up the phone in tears.

“So you’re not an deity.”

“Oh?” Chen An’s smile could be felt even through the phone line, “Who. Said. I’m. Not?”

“Actually, it’s more fun at night. The lights are very pretty but there are less people in the daytime so there won’t be anyone who will try to compete for the ice slide with us.”

Even until now, Yu Zhou Zhou was still feeling dumbfounded. Yes, even when she stuttered and trembled as she told the deity that she was very scared and unhappy, the deity didn’t ask her for the exact reason but instead, invited her to go and play at the ice amusement park on Saturday.

“Chen An,” Yu Zhou Zhou still plucked up the courage to ask, “How old are you to still play on the ice slide…”

Chen An rubbed his ears and as if he had just thought of something, took out a pair of eamuffs from his black backpack to put on. Then, he rubbed his nose and said “Ha, I’ve never played it as a kid,” ina somewhat sad tone.

Yu Zhou Zhou followed him in the entrance. The entrance fee wasn’t cheap but Chen An said that the deities were all very rich so they would definitely treat them.

“What should we play first?” Chen An looked around at the vast amusement park with his hands in his pockets. The vast blue sky seemed endless. By taking a breath while looking up, the icy air would fill up one’s lungs bringing a sliver of pain into one’s chest. However, by slowly breathing it out, it was as if the wound was healing bit by bit.

However, Yu Zhou Zhou still had a heavy and worried expression. The expansive, snow white world of the amusement park was novel to her and made her feel excited but this type of happiness carried shackles that she couldn’t unlock.

Chen An seemed to have discovered this. He pulled up her little school bag and dragged her across to the highest point of the ice slide.

“Let’s play this,” He conjured up a massive brown paper shell that seemed to have been disassembled from the bottom of a paper box. Chen An pressed down on Yu Zhou Zhou’s shoulders for her to sit on the front of the paper shell and then sat behind her. He tightly held onto her shoulders and lightly said, “One, two, three, let’s go!”

Yu Zhou Zhou barely had the time to shout and close her eyes when the incoming wind rushed into her eyes, seemingly clearing away the foggy mist. With a solid chet behind her, she opened her arms and rushed towards the snow white ground at an unimaginable speed –

She was no longer weighed down, because she was weightless.

It was different to the small slope that Lin Yang had brought her and Zhan Yan Fei to play. That type of happiness was different. When the paper shell reached the bottom and glided afar before slowly coming to a stop, she felt like she was like a migratory bird that had finished flying and was gently landing while abnormally happy.

“Do you still want to play?”

“Yes!”

Yu Zhou Zhou jumped up almost immediately and pulled out the paper shell from under Chen An’s bottom, nearly flipping him over in the process.

“Hey, you have to take me!”

“I won’t be taking you this time!” Yu Zhou Zhou regained her dictator-like nature and left the deity behind her. She dragged the paper shell that was twice her size as she clumsily climbed up the stairs of the ice tower.

Flying was something that can become addicting. In the process of sliding down, she had almost forgotten who she was. She was just a bird, a migratory bird that was unintentionally passing by, that would fly to a faraway place after a short rest.

A very, very far place.

Yu Zhou Zhou was finally tired. She wiped the sweat from her forehead and looked up to see Chen An leaning by the lamp post smiling.

She hurriedly stood up, picked up the paper shell and embarrassedly passed it over, “You…Do you want to play?”

Yu Zhou Zhou felt genuinely ashamed, the deity had never played these before when he was a kid yet she was actually competing with him for it.

“Thank you, you’re so generous.”

Chen An’s teasing made Yu Zhou Zhou bow her head down deeply.

“Come on, let’s go try the dog sled ride!”

“Are you sure this is a dog sled ride, deity?”

Chen An didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Facing Yu Zhou Zhou who had her eyebrows raised, he could only apologize.

Yu Zhou Zhou and Chen An each pulled a rein and carefully walked forward on the ice while a dirty greyhound sat on the sled, followed by black dog on the side.

After they had sat on the sled for a while, the other dog wasn’t able to match the black dog’s speed which caused the sled to circle around the greyhound on the right and finally, tip over.

They pushed the wailing greyhound onto the sled then pulled the reins, following that black dog that seemed like he was attending a funeral back to the base camp in the distance.

“We’re really unlucky.” Chen An helplessly said.

“It’s because you’re too heavy,” Yu Zhou Zhou responded seriously.

Chen An turned and glared at the greyhound then saw Yu Zhou Zhou stare at him.

“Is this how you treat deities?”

Yu Zhou Zhou didn’t reply this time. She lowered her head and worked hard to pull the reins, slipping slightly as she went.

“It’ll be great if you were really an deity.”
